Default White round "eggs" or bugs???

I have had this setup for some time with no problems. Lately I've noticed the development of "eggs" in the soil closest to the glass. I have not seen flys or anything in the tank that is not supposed to be, but I have NO idea of what this could be. They are small, pinhead size, and whitish. Any suggestions? I have pics, but they are not close up to really see any detail.

I have the same stuff in my oldest tank. I think its actually some kind of mold.

You may be able to see them in my album...Not sure about mites, though. I keep numerous reptiles and have never had mites....there is a first, but like I said there has been nothing moving. They just look so much like little eggs. I wouldn't think mite eggs would be this visible.
I thought mold, too, but b/c they look like eggs I wasn't sure...hmmm. Would really like to figure this out!
