is the green coloring on cresties? my dal male is a light green/ cream/ slate when fired down, and fairly olive and brown when fired up.

i'm assuming that the olive color is pretty common since i've seen it quite a bit on this and other forums.

maybe its the green flames i'm thinking are rare?

i wish i could get a good picture of his color..

When looking at the color of cresties we consider thei colors when they are fired up no fired down. So take this gecko here


The right side of him is fired down, most of his left side is fired up. As you can see he is a green grey color when fired down and is a blonde when fired up. This is very common for this particular morph, but as we label the color morph with the fired up colors he is a blonde.

Olive/brown geckos are often a green/grey color when fired down like you are discribing, cresties so far are not proven to be a true "green" color, they are always an olive or an army green color (green/brown geckos), to which olivs and the army green geckos are better known as buckskins, cute geckos but not really uncommon either.

That picture is a great example of the color change. I agree that the "green flame" is pretty common, but isn't seen in pictures that much because it is the fired down state. One of my favorites in my collection looks green and orange during the day and fires up to a brown color at night. It's all personal preference and if that's what you like then right on.

I think to really call a crested "green" it needs to fire up "green". Theres alot of people like previously stated that call their gecko a green flame when in reality it is dark brown to almost black when fired up. I have a brick red male thats green when unfired and i would never call it a green crested. But there are a geckos out there that do fire up green, or olive if you want to call it, and those are the true green flames.
