Anyone know of a good care sheet on these guys?

I wonder if I would like to own one. Strange of me to think of owning an insect......

If you are going to raise mantids you also should look into raising flightless fruit flies. The tricky part to this can be getting a good culture recipe to support your fruit fly colony. Here is the best I have found so far. Me and my girlfriend raised fruit flies for two months waiting for our mantis eggsack to hatch...........but it was a dud

Good luck! We may try again soon.

When I was in high school my dad was out mowing the lawn. I heard the mower stop and I thought maybe he was coming in to get a cold drink. He told me to come outside, quick. I ran out and saw he'd found a praying mantis. It was right in front of the mower and if he hadn't been paying attention he would've run over it! He rescued it from the grass and put it in a tree. We stood and looked at it for a long time. It was about the size of the one in the picture in this thread with the little boy and bright, bright green. It looked at us as if to say, "Hey, thanks for not squishing me!"

i had heard of quite a few people who had seen them here in colorado and have seen a couple growing up. but when i moved to las vegas, there of all places i had seen more there than i ever had before. which is odd... i actually caught one and kept it in a kk for a couple months feeding it crickets i caught in the backyard. they really are fascinating to watch and keep. theyre almost alien like in a way and seem to be pretty smart. really cool to watch them hunt too. i have considered possibly getting another one, but i havent ever seen anybody breeding or selling them.
