ok, so i got this girlie from the NARBC in Arlington Tx, in February and i am worried about her being egg bound. I know guys, last time i thought one of my girls was egg bound it was like two years ago, and she layed the very next night after i posted my worries! So in all honesty, i am hoping that this girl does the same. But i don't know her schedule, and i don't know how/where she normally gains weight when gravid. With my other females when they seem like they are on the verge of laying (or popping) they carry almost all of it down near their rear legs, and this girl seems to carry it all over. She might just be a little chunky monkey all around, gravid or not, while my other girls don't really seem to put on that much "extra" weight. That is what is worrying me. Instead of all the extra seeming to be located around the eggs, it is like her entire torso has gotten bigger...
OK, specifics! She weighed 33+ grams when i got her and is now 37+ grams and that, to me seems like a very healthy weight gain, and like she should be laying pretty soon, but it is the distribution of the weight that sort of worries me. She was a little chunky when i got her, and there was a little indication that she could be gravid then, but the "eggs" were so small that she could have just needed to go to the bathroom, you know?ok so now that is out of the way... The breeder that i got her from said she was separated from her mate in October. (I grabbed the wrong card at the table, so i am not really sure who she came from, and can't contact them about her cycles which i hate!)
She is being kept by herself in a 35gallon tall. Naturalistic enclosure with a peat moss/forest bed substrate mixture, with a designated laying area that has moss on top of the substrate. Temps are around 77 when i look at it, but she is near a vent, so i am sure that it gets cooler than that at some points during the day. humidity usually doesn't get below 60, and she eats CGD and occasionally i will give her some of the Banana powder mixture as a treat (so far, once a month) but it doesn't hinder her appetite for CGD. None of the plants are poisonous, and she has a constant supply of food and water...
like a said, i really hope that i am being paranoid, but let me know what you think. i will try to post a pic of her tomorrow if needed, and i know i over think things and am kind of long winded, so thanks for reading if you got this far!
