    Default They're here, and they're CUTE! (D.U.W.)

My Giant African Land Snails (GALS) are here! They're awesome and I'm in love. Keep in mind that they're not full grown yet. Yeah, they're big, but they're going to be HUGE.

    Mugshot of "Squeege":

All four of them- Clarence, Dit, Squeege, and Lettuce:

As for the names, we have 4 snails, and 4 people in the family- so everyone picked a name. Squeege is mine, Clarence is my husband's, Lettuce is my 5 year-old's, and Dit is my 11 month-old's. (I asked him what he wanted to name his snail and he yelled, "DIT!" Alright then. "Dit" it is.)

These guys are Achatina immaculata (variation immaculata), so the average adult shell is 15 cm (5.9"). Mine aren't anywhere near that yet.

Here's a caresheet with more pics-

It's funny to say this, but they really do have their own personalities. Lettuce seems to be extremely grumpy, he hisses alot. (Which was weird at first. I've never had a snail hiss at me before this one.)

Wow they are pretty cool looking, but weird!

I have to ask, do they slime you? I just remember as a kid getting little garden snails and they would ooze..

Do you have to make sure they eat enough calcium? Would they breed for you? With these snails, does it take "two to tango"? heh heh heh

Yeah, they definitely do slime the snot out of you. They also do need calcium. I give them berry-flavored cuttlebones. You can hear them chomping on them. Mmmmm....

Spectacular! I'm moving to Europe immediately-love them, and love the name "Dit."
