Banana-Nog's even stranger appetite(and I thought Nib was weird!)
OK, so we now know that Cresties can eat organic red-leaf lettuce or herbs and/or spring salad stuff and survive just fine.(see Nib's strange appetite thread)
However, something even stranger happened the other night with my female, Banana-Nog.
I'm assuming she must be getting ready for a growth spurt, as she has suddenly shown hunting behavior (she tried to eat my pencil a few nights ago as I was sketching her!) and much increased interest in crickets.
So the other night, I fed her two, via tongs, in her own cage. Normally, I put her in a kk to hunt, but there are crix too large for her to eat in there and I didn't want to risk it.
So she snatches two medium crickets from the tongs, and scarfs them down. I leave the room briefly. I come back in, she's on the wall, shaking her head violently, her tongue flapping, trying to push something out of her mouth.
I realize that she has pooped on the glass, and obviously tried to eat it, (she must have been super stoked on hunting and though it was another cricket) and she was now trying to clean her mouth out.
I've not seen anything that disgusting or that hilarious in a long while!
(and it just STANK!!!!!
)
So I misted her heavily, hoping to help her "cleanse" her mouth out.
This happened a couple of nights ago, and she seems fine as of this morning, she completely cleaned up her CGD so her appetite isn't affected.
I just thought I'd share this, as its a weird behaviour that others may not have seen/experienced yet. Its also another really good reason to feed your Crestie in a seperate KK!!
I will probably bring in a fecal sample soon for the vet to test, just to make sure she didn't get anything weird from eating her own poop.
I really hope she learned from this experience and doesn't try that again!
