    Default "Rhac FAQ"- Need Questions

    Hello!

    Matt has been generous enough to allow me to use his forum as an information-gathering tool. Here's what's going on:

    I'd like to add a "Crestie Rhac FAQ" to my website and am looking for as many newbie questions as possible. I'd like this to be an easy reference for newcomers to have their questions answered, so I'm trying to get as much information down as possible.

    The topics and subcategories (not in order and more are likely to come):

    General
    a.) Native Environment
    b.) Misc.

    Anatomy
    a.) General
    b.) Head to Tail

    Morphs
    a.) Morphs
    b.) Traits
    c.) Descriptions

    Purchasing
    a.) What to look for
    b.) Finding a reputable breeder
    c.) Protecting yourself

    Breeding
    a.) Conditioning
    b.) The Act
    c.) Caring for your Breeders
    d.) Egg care
    e.) Raising the hatchlings

    Health Issues/Concerns
    a.) Healthy gecko vs. unhealthy
    b.) Issues to look out for

    Setup
    a.) Different types of setups (Naturalistic vs. Non-naturalistic)
    b.) Substrates
    c.) Heating/Lighting/Humidity

    Diet/Feeding
    a.) Feeding Options
    b.) Feeding Schedule
    c.) Supplementing your geckos

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So here's the deal...
    Think of as many newbie questions as possible and post them. Try to keep your questions bunched together, and if you think of more later... edit them into your original post (So the thread isn't a zillion pages long. )
    An example of what I'm looking for:
    1.) What temperature should I keep my geckos at?
    2.) How long do cresties live for?
    3.) What substrate should I use for my geckos?
    4.) My male is biting my female, is this normal?
    5.) How do I know when my crested is ready to breed?
    Etc. etc.
    Ask away! Also, if you think of more categories/subcategories... post them. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible to create a quick online reference, almost like a mini-book online with all of the categories and information catalogued and easy to access.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    ~Sarah~
    I see this question a lot...it bugs me because a lot of people don't want to listen to me when I tell them that Baby Food is not the best choice for their cresties. I tell them to feed CGD, it takes the guess work out..
    What supplements should I use when feeding baby food?
    Things I've heard most often since posting pics on an art account. Please note that most of these come from people who have little to no experience with herps of any kind.
    I would add a category regarding handling. And add questions such as:
    How do I get my juvie out of the enclosure?
    How often should I handle juvies less than 4 months old?
    For how long should I handle my juvies?
    How can I "train" my crestie to be tamer?
    How do I minimize the risk of my geckos jumping out of my hand while being handled?
    Under the health questions, I see a lot of this asked: (I know because I worried about it myself)
    1: Is my gecko too skinny? (maybe post pics of healthy, chubby, and skinny for reference)
    2: If necessary, how do you "forcefeed" a gecko?
    3: How will I know my gecko is getting ready to shed? ( I thought mine had a problem with his feet being "slippery", but apparently he was just getting rady to shed!)
    4: My gecko's not eating. . . Help?
    5: Whats the best way for getting and storing a fecal sample?
    6: Something should be mentioned about the high probability that crickets can carry pinworms, and how readily this is passed on from host to gecko, then to other geckos!(maybe even see if you can get pics of these micro-parasites?)
    Husbandry Questions:
    1: How to properly mix the CGD? (I know it seems obvious if you can read and follow directions, but there seems to be a lot of questions about this subject)
    2: What's the difference between the "purple lid bottled T-Rex brand and the foil packaged diet?
    3: Visual references on what it should look like mixed? (photos again, showing it properly mixed, vs. too dry or thick, or too runny)
    4: I've never tried the two part diet, how do I do it?
    Under Breeding questions:
    1: How long do you fresh-air out the eggs, and how often, so you don't loose too much humidity?
    2: What temp should they be kept at?
    3: Whats th best container for keeping eggs?
    4: most recommended substrate for eggs?
    I'm sure I'll think of more later. . .
    Under Anatomy Sexing photos with the pores or lack thereof highlighted or circled or whatever.
    Maybe under feeding give a run down of "other options" listing what bugs are ok and what there benefits are i.e. phoenix worms-high calcium, wax worms-high fat.
    8. I saw my gecko eating some bark last night. Is this a problem?
    9. How exactly do you tame and teach a crested gecko tricks?
    10. Can i put a 20 gram female in with a 55 gram female?
    13. Is my crested gecko a boy or girl?
    Might also want to put something in there about cresteds being nocturnal...
    "My crestie sleeps all day. He never seems to move. Why is this?"
