Very cool! I used to catch mantids all the time and just watch them eat. I love it.

Aww, so cute :D I love mantids.

This past spring I was at someone's house in their back yard and felt a tickle on my hand - there was a mantis no longer than my pinky nail skittering around on me. I spent like ten minutes moving my hand around - it would keep its eyes glued to my head the whole time. Freaky-cool.

I kept a mantid but he died within a month. They are very cool inverts.

I keep trying to take pictures of my Mantids, but they're too small for the camera to focus on them :(
Oh and by the way, thanks SlyGecko.. I got 3 of my Orchids from Yen.. altho I still want the Cilnea that you posted awhile back.

Nice! I hope you enjoy them. Isn't he a good guy to deal with? I assume you got some young'uns, L2's maybe? If so, I would start culturing waxmoths or silkmoths now. When my orchids molted to adult a month ago, they suddenly refused to eat crix and mealies as before. They pretty much only took flying prey. You can PM me about my woes if you want, thats too tangential to this thread :) I do think the cilnia was my favorite, although he died of unknown causes soon after molting to adult. I don't know the species on him because he was just hatched out of some native species we caught and had them lay some egg sacs for us.
I really enjoy him, and wish I could get my hands on some more exotic species. Alas why does all the cool stuff have to be illegal?

Are they hard to take care of?

When they first hatch out they can be, but only because they are so gosh darn hard to see!!
But as long as you mist them every other day, and feed them, they are super easy to care for!

LOL I wonder how many of us have said this to ourselves... err, how many times a day, even! :D

I just contacted someone about the Orchids and some Nigerian Flowers, too. And I'm anxiously awaiting the offspring of the "Big Momma" that guarded my garden all last summer... I miss giving her a shower every evening (she would promptly perch her big ol' butt on the tallest tomato plant and "wash up" while I sprayed her gently with the hose)

Moo~Boo, can you tell me briefly what the differences in husbandry are with the two mantis? When I asked, the guy said he would fill me in once I have them... that's great, but I'd like to know before they arrive so I can be set up correctly.
