:-({|=
Hello everyone -- I'm new also --I'm reading and researching all I can before I purchase my Crested Gecko. I saw the post on tail dropping and was wondering if they do eventually grow back?. :-({|= Should I try my local petstore to purchase the gecko or-- a breeder? Personally I don't trust pet stores from all I have read . If anyone knows good breeders in the Clearwater , Florida area or otherwise would you please let me know as I don't mind the s&h as long as it's been raised healthy. And need to know the inches of a 20 gallon tank. I wanted to purchase a glass terrarium. I want the over all inches of 24" x 18" x 24" high. Plus plants and a hiding rock-- Where should I place the red light ? I think bottom but not sure . I've only owned an Igunia. I wanted to purchase a baby. Any help would be appreciated -- and if anyone knows breeders in my area please let me know.

Nope, unfortunately crested geckos don't grow their tails back.
As for heating unless it gets extremely cold in your house you don't need any type of heat on them at all.
I like purchasing from breeders, just because they seem to be more knowledgeable than the pet store.
Just look around this fourm, there are several breeders and many geckos for sale :)

Crested geckos are one of the very few geckos who do not regenerate their tails. Dont live in Fl so cant help you there. But I would recommend buying from an experienced breeder. If possible buying from a breeder in person rather than over the internet but thats just me. A 20gallon high is 24x12x20 high i believe and a 20 gallon long is 30x12x12 high. I would recommend the exoterra tank if your doing cresteds because they are pretty easy to clean, have two swinging front doors and a completely removable screentop and 3D background. they make it in 12 cube, 12x12x18, 18 cube, 18x18x24, and I believe also a 30x18x18. As far as heat, you wont need it unless it is colder than 68 in your house. Hope this helped,
Moose

I have Crested Geckos from a 5 different breeders on this website. Look at the websites of breeders decide what you like in Crested. I also have ExoTerra Tanks, they are easy to clean. I use Paper Towel for Substrate. The ExoTerra are available from Petco, Petsmart, and order them on line. As far as loosing the tails, I have 2 that have no tail, they are just fine, function without the tail (climbing walls-decorations) lost tail offers no problem. Good Luck in your venture. Welcome Aboard.

welcome. i use a low watt-(like 40 or 50) to watch them at night. and if my house is chilly, it keeps things at about 71 degrees. that is where it should be. no hot rocks, not hot pads under the tank.
Eli from BasAssHerps has some very nice animals he needs to clear out. he is in Florida i think.

Yeah, there are plenty of reputable breeders on this forum. Feel free to pm a mod to ask about someone's reputation before purchasing if that makes you feel more at ease. Also, you can ask the breeder to provide you with a list of references that you can check out yourself. Make sure if you get one shipped you buy from some one that has experience with it.
Good luck!!

You can also check out the board of inquiry at www.faunaclassifieds.com you can search for any number of breeders, and hear peoples feedback about them. Not everyone is listed, its more of a snake place then a gecko place, and just because theyre not listed doesnt mean that they have a bad reputation. You can also email breeders, and ask for their references, and they should be more then happy to provide the names and contact information for people they have had positive transactions with.

Definitely some good advice. Always check the Fauna BOI before purchasing from anyone. While the majority of people out there are good people, there are the few you need to watch out for. Better to be safe than sorry! ;)
BTW, good job on researching before purchasing! Too many people dive in head first and don't know what to expect. You'll be a good gecko owner. :D

I see the Pangea Forems top has a breeder site with lots of babys for sale. Does anyone know if they are good or has anyone purchased from them? I went to the Fauna Forum Yikes! seems like alot of drama in there -- I own my own chatroom-- won't allow the drama lol. I think I'll stay here where it's safe :-) Thank you for the greeting Crested Lady! All of you are very nice. Brandi*

Hello StormyOne --I saw as I mentioned at the top of this page a store that offers babys and they are very reasonable also--depending on what you get. I'm ordering the ExoTerra Tank also in the largest size they have so I don't have to buy two seperate tanks one for the baby and one when they grow up Probably getting lots of branches and plants so they can climb . Food from that place above and a few other things . Now all I have to do is get my gecko from someone reliable. If anyone knows of any I will check them out--doesn't matter if it's Florida or not--as I will no purchase from petstores--they know nothing and they act like they can't be bothered. I've seen the conditions under which some are housed and it's heatbreaking. Nice to meet you also and thanks for the greeting. Brandi*

A quick thank you for everyone who was so nice and replied to me -- I can use all the advice I can get on raising my first gecko. I have fish now and had as I think I said an Iguani untill he got too large--which a friend took into their care. Thanks again :-) Brandi*
