wanst sure where to put this and thought it fit best here! I think leaf tails are really cool and am looking into them. I was woundering which ones are the nicer looking ones and what kind of colore or morph is good and all the looks and that kind of stuff! I dont want to get one of the ungly colored ones or get one when there are bester breeds out there.

Thanks

I like the satanics and ebenaui the best. They both look the same except the ebenaui has a spear shaped tail. Both have a variety of colors

Ya, one of the mods will move this thread soon...

I have kept and currently keep every species that is legal in the USA of Leaf-Tails..... If it is your first leaf-tail you would be better off with a Henkeli. They seem to be the "hardiest". But leaf-tails in general require a lot more care then a crested or leopard. They must be misted every night as they will rarely drink from a water bowl (but still provide a water bowl). They can’t get above 80-85 degrees. Depending on what species you decide to start with make sure that you have corkbark or bamboo in the cage. Live plants can help too..

Also depending on what kind of geckos you keep now and what your experience level is with reptiles in general you might be better off buying Captive Bred (CB) animals instead of Wild Caught (WC) animals (PS: This is a decision up to you, I am not saying your in-experienced as I don’t know you. Only you can make this decision! But if you go with WC make sure that you know a good vet in your area that can do fecal tests and knows about reptiles before you buy any WC animals.) Because most of the time WC animals will need to be treated for parasites, but some peoples CB animals that I have bought needed to be treated... Just make sure you do your homework on who you buy from! :)

If you have any more questions feel free to ask! :)

PS: I am re-doing my website over the holiday break and it will include a care guide for each species of leaf-tails! I will let you know when I finish with them all! :)

Thanks Erik

I’ve got a group of Mossys (Uroplatus Sikorae). There my first leaf tails and I absolutely love them. For me its between these and corkbarks as far as the neatest leaf tails go. I love the camouflage that leaftails display and it never ceases to amaze me how well they can disguise themselves. Mossy's, Lined, and Henkiels (sp) seem to be the hardiest, and therefore may be better for a first leaftail from all the reading Ive done.
In my opinion leaf tails show a wide variety of nice colors and patterns yet haven’t gone "morph" crazy as cresteds have which makes me like them even more. It always makes me laugh when someone says they want a xxxx morph yet cant describe it, or say is my gecko a xxxx morph and become disappointed when its not. To me morph names are really all b.s. Look at a picture of the gecko if you like its colors/ patterning then great that’s what should matter not being called xxxx morph which is a subjective term in most cases for cresteds.

i have kept most of them and my own personal observation about them are as follows.

fimbriatus really neat looking but a bit fragile and require a bit of space as they get over a foot in lenth. but they wont move at all till its completely dark.

sikorae same as fimbriatus except require less space because their almost half the size

ebenaui these are my favorite so far the are small at about four inches but are more fun, they have quirky personalities and dont mind being watched or handled. tossing in a bunch of crickets insues a feeding frenzy

phantasticus are very beautiful but dont do all that much. also theie aout a third smaller than the ebenaui, they make up for it bu having a full tail while the ebenaui just have a small point

again these are just my observations and others have their own opinions.

I actually got rid of mine because I thought they were too much work. They're great, but I never felt that I could handle them much, and their humidity needs were very demanding in winter...
