I posted in the original thread, but I guess we're all supposed to make our own now. I'm 20 years old and a college junior majoring in environmental science. I planned to get a PhD in herpetology, but now I think I'll stop after I have my master's. I've kept all kinds of herps at some point, but I don't have much experience with Rhacs. I had two young cresteds a few years ago and now I have another juvenile that I hope to include in a small breeding group before too long. Here's a nice picture of me at 1:30 am after 48 hours without sleep. I know how you guys like the glamorous shots.

kevin, are you from WV? or you just go to school there, are you a mountaineer? WV is a great state for herping. A lot of nice rivers and streams to catch aquatic reptiles!! I used to live in Northern Virginia, so I'm pretty fimiliar with that area.

Good luck with your Masters or PhD or whatever it is you decide to do. I sure as heck don't have that dedication for acedemics. I just want to get done and get out and get hands on in my career. I really wish I was driven though.. It'd make things so much easier.
Anyhoo, nice to meet you!

I've lived in WV all my life, and there is some good herping to be done here. A friend lets me dump a lot of my field herping photos here if you want to see some of the stuff I've found in the last year: www.clayfischer.com/kevin
Osamabin, I don't have a focus within environmental science. I was actually going to be a bio major, but with environmental science I don't need organic chem, foreign languages, or any microbiology. I just want to get through the first 4 years so I can get my masters in herpetology.

Don't you guys have hellbenders down there. The big giant salamander things?

hellbenders are awesome, I've looked unsuccessfully for them in the wild. I hear they are now showing up with deformities like a lot of the frogs being found in the wild. It's a shame that a lot of herps are going extinct due to pesticides, water and air pollution and habit destruction. Mankind is nothing but a virus, that's eating up this planet.

Hellbenders are sooo cool I've never found one in the wild but the aquarium that I worked at had 2 and that think could eat a huge rat in seconds and they were never full. Really cool animals :D

Yeah, I've personally never found one though. We have them in a lot of clean fast moving streams with rocky bottoms. My herp professor has found a lot of them, so maybe I'll get a chance to catch some with him.
