2 of my crestie eggs were starting to opened up since Three days ago, and one of them start emerging from the egg. I can see its nose is poking out of the egg.
Today I kept checking, they don't seem to make it.. it didn't move anymore...
So I decided to open up both eggs and see what's inside..

The first one seems perfect, totally developed...

The second one has only One eye... but its body is fully developed too..

Its developed eye seems weird, the iris looks like an arrow pointing down.

I'm not sure what cause them failed to emerged, but it's sad.. :(
They were incubated with another eggs that hatched perfectly at the same time their eggs opened up.

Is there anyway I can preserve this?

Wow- that second one looks as if his whole head and jaw are deformed. Not likely that anything you did could have caused it. I'm sure there's a way you can preserve it I just don't know how. You may want to put it in a plastic baggie and place it in the freezer until someone can tell you what the best way to preserve is- or until you can find out online. Sorry they didn't make it!

you can preserve them by putting them in a tightly sealed jar full of denatured alcohol or IF you have access, formaldihyde [sp?] but thats harder to get. denatured alcohol works just as well. just be careful not to spill it or get it on your hands. after being exposed to air they can deterorate quickly, even when in the jar, so be sure that it doesnt fall on its side or anything weird l ike that.

very/weird cool. im about to make my own post about a gecko with a weird eye.

The mom was gravid when I purchased her and she was kinda small when she arrived here. She had stopped laying after these eggs and has gain weight nicely. In the two months, the eggs grew and looks very healthy... but maybe that's why.

Thanks for the advice Tamara, I'm getting a container soon for it.

The second one also looks like he's lacking nostrils- just an observation. I would be willing to bet that the female's low weight had a lot to do with it- there's no way the babies could have gotten the nutrition they needed from her if she wasn't in proper breeding condition. Hopefully she'll be better next season. I'd give her a good long break for the time being, though.

Preserve in 100% ethanol is probably easiest. Freezing destroys some tissue, but is great for preserving DNA. IF you want it to last a very long time you can slit the body cavity to the ethanol penetrates the specimen.

Since I think your just keeping it for personal use it's merely a matter of preference. However, freezing makes it look bad a few years down the road.
