Does everyone on the forums have a gram scale for their cresteds? I saw a lot of people in the other thread comparing weights. Where do you all purchase your gram scales? Whay brand usually runs the best? Aren't they fairly expensive?

You would be surprised at how reasonably they are priced. And the good part is you don't have to get a huge one because cresties stay under 75 grams when full grown. It would be good to get one that weighs in tenths of a gram so you can track growth rates more closely. You can usually get a decent one for around $10 to $15 on eBay.
...Being able to track your geckos health by monitoring it's weight on a weekly basis...priceless :)

I would also be using it to weigh my boas, which do weigh much more than cresteds ;) I'd like one that goes up to 1kg (er like... 999g, and to the tenths place) if possible.
I also have to be the only non-senile person in the world who doesn't use or know how to use E-Bay. Are there stores you reccomend? Brands out there that are more reliable?

You can go to most of your walmart kmart type stores and go to the kitchen section and ask for gram scales. I havent seen a scale that weights over 500 grams in the tenth range only per gram. I actually just got one of ebay for a penny but shipping was $14.

What do you guys think about this one? http://saveonscales.com/product_i2500_digital_bowl_scale.html
There are many on this site that go up pretty high in weight and price. This one goes up to 2500g and in 0.5g incriments.

Mine will outlive its usefulness pretty soon. I didn't know when I ordered it, but it's a "pocket scale." So although it goes up to 125 grams, it's smaller than my wallet and very hard to fit my crested on even at its current small size.

I haven't recieved the one I ordered yet but it's got a 5.5" weighing surface and weighs up to 6.6 pounds in whole gram increments. I might sell it while its in the box and get another one but the more I think about it, the more it seems like the one coming to me suits my needs and doesn't need replacing.
Like KevinS said you need to be careful of how big the scale is. I was about to jump on one of those $15 dollar ones when I realized that I'm going to be weighing leachies on it eventually, and nothing about the pocket scales would work for that purpose :? .

I had gotten a small scale from Staples or Office max that is a small postal scale and it allows you to switch from oz. to grams. It has a pretty big surface area and it also lets me know what something will cost to ship :D anyways I got it pretty cheap and didn't have to worry about shipping! Kinda killin two birds with one stone since I will now be using it for dual purposes.

Just thought I would add another late thought....I just bought a more accurate Ohaus scale and found that those cheaper walmart ones are less accurate at smaller weights. I found that there was up to a 2 gram difference when weighed on both scales from a 40g animal. Not knocking them, as that's what I've used for the last 8 or so months. Just my 2 cents.

ya you can get one from kmart/walmart but they usually arent as accurate. test it before you buy it. a $1 bill weighs 1 gram, not a new 5 or 20, a good old single does the trick. if you want to spend a few extra bucks go to a head shop... probably the biggest selection you will find, and keep in mind they are delicate tools and even shipping can throw a small scale all out of wack...

Mine is working fantastically. It's just like Crested Lady's but the next model down. It only weighs like half the total weight that hers does (mine weighs up to 6.6 pounds in whole gram increments). So far I'm very happy with it.

I have a rather small scale, but I just put a bowl or plate on top of it before I turn it on... so when you turn it on it still reads 0.00 ... and then I can place things (like geckos) in the bowl... and they have a harder time jumping off of it as they tend to do :)
also... if you have a scale that say only weighs up to 500 grams... and you need to weigh something that is more than that... then you could weigh an object on it that is about 400-500 grams and then turn off the scale and turn it on again while the object is still on it (it will then reset to 0.00 while the object is still on the scale)... when you take the object off, the scale will go into negative, then you can put something heavier on it, and then you just add the weight of the first object to the reading on the scale... it's actually pretty damn accurate... most digital scales will do this.
it's a bit more trouble, but it's worth it for me as I can't afford a nice new scale right now.

You know ebay is not that hard to figure out. All you need to do is sign up for an account and make a user name and password. You really don't even need a PayPal account, because a lot of people do take cashiers checks and money orders. Now would be a good reason to figure out how to use it. Trust me you won't regret it. I use it all the time. It's like the world's largest garage sale. Everything is in really good condition and cheap!
Anyways, I have this scale, which I got off of ebay and I love it. It goes up to 500grams and goes up by .1 grams. So far it has been very accurate.
