Hey guys, most of you probably aren't familiar with my situation but at the moment I'm in a college dorm that doesn't allow any pets. I have my crested hidden in the closet and I've been feeding it CGD and baby food. I have a blue tongued skink at home that I feed every weekend and I have my mom give it some food in the middle of the week. Normally she gives it bearded dragon pellets or some commercial diet like that. Well recently, I got a pet store gift certificate and used it for some freeze dried crickets from Flukers. I figured nothing would eat them, but I could mix them with other things to give my skink some variety. To my surprise, as soon as he tasted them, he started wolfing them down. He eats them just fine when I leave them in a dish inside his enclosure. So I brought a few back with me this weekend in a ziploc bag to try on my crested. I left a few in its normal feeding dish and some were missing after the first night. I break them in half to make it easier since my gecko is small and they're adult crickets, but I just got done hand-feeding him some and he seems to be able to crunch them up just fine. I just thought I'd let you guys know if any of you are also in a position that makes it difficult to get live insects but you want to add some variety to the diet. These crickets are supposedly gut loaded with calcium prior to freeze drying, here's a link to the type I got: http://sugarglider.safeshopper.com/88/112.htm?253
I'd be interested to know if any of your geckos go for them too.

That seems like a good alternative. How lond would a bottle last you? At 9.00 a bottle for one gecko might work fine but for more it could get quite expensive unless you use it once a week or so.

Hmmm another option. Do you have an idea about how many are in the bottle? At $.10 each for live ones, freeze dried may be an option. My reservation is my cresteds not responding to dead prey...

I'd say there are at least 10 dozen per bottle, at least in the ones I've gotten. It'll depend on how many you're feeding and what size they are, but at the size mine is, it probably eats less than a dozen each week. I don't offer them daily though, so it's probably only eating about 3 or 4 per week now plus CGD.
