i just weighed my 2 eggs and i couldnt believe they weighed 4 grams!....so if you notice a weight gain of 3-4 grams in a month to a month and a half you KNOW shes pregnent. and when she loses 3-4 grams you KNOW she layed and its time to search...why doesnt everyone just go spend 60 bucks for a spice scale. it takes alll the guess work out..i'm sure a lot of you know this already...i was just shcoked at how easy this makes it.

I picked up a gram scale off of ebay for like $35 del with the calibration weights... it's like a pocket sized version, but it's digital and easy to use.

Even easier is to look at the female. If she looks a lot thinner in the morning, you know she has laid her eggs. This is exactly what happened this morning. I brought one female to my son and said, "Look at this Fiona." He looks at her, blurry eyed, since I just woke him up for school, and said in his groggy voice, "She looks thin. She must have laid eggs." And that's exactly what happened. YAY! If I'm not sure, I always weight the female before I go digging for eggs. So much faster.

I have a gram scale ($15 on ebay)...but I always just peer in the cage every morning first thing. If it's close to the females lay date and I see any disturbance in the lay box, then I know they're are eggs. I keep track of lay dates on my pc, but also keep a post-it on the cage for every female w/her lay dates written out. Much easier for me than weighing the million gravid gals I have...LOL...at least it seems like a million :p
