Those both look regular to me, I think that term is getting tossed around even more than "super dalmatian" and not correctlly either.

I definatly agree about that the terms are being tossed around to loosely. And just to raise the price on the gecko when it is sold. But you do have some nice harleys!!!

Thank you for the crestie compliments! Both were grabbed off of a spanking new Petco shipment... it's nice being able to place orders for new cresties because when they arrive it is like Christmas! And I get first pick! :D

I also have to agree with you all. Color morph labels seem to have very grey areas considering all the color variations that exist in crested geckos. It would be like calling one leopard gecko high-yellow, and another extreme-high-yellow.

Can anyone post comparison pics of harley/extreme harleys?

I would consider this one an extreme harley...although, this isn't the greatest pic since she's in her dull state:

http://www.pangeareptile.com/photos/images/140/medium/1_harley_girl.jpg

Hope that helps.

Basically, for me to consider a Harley an extreme, then they need to have major crazy markings just about EVERYWHERE...including the feet. I'll try to get a better pic of this girl in her fired up state.

The gecko that comes to mind for me though is Eli's Vegas...I think that's the one I'm thinking of (just going purely from memory)...Eli, is he an extreme harley? If so, could you post a pic?

Vegas looks nice and he is a high qaulity one but I wouldn't go as far as to call him a EXTREME harley. Here is a picture of a harley that Sundial Reptile ownes (don't hate me for using your picture) I would consider this to be a very high qaulity herley but Sundial referes to it as an extreme so this one is borderline to me.

So can anyone else add their definition of an extreme Harley? Crestedgeckogirly says
for me to consider a Harley an extreme, then they need to have major crazy markings just about EVERYWHERE...including the feet. Is there a concensus on this? I have similar thoughts, about them needing an abundance of markings.

What is your definition, in words, keeping in mind that not everyone see's everything the same. lol

Matt, get to work on your morphs page will ya. lol :D

Yeah I had proposed that we have 3 or 4 different degrees of harlequins.

1st degrees have very little mottling on legs and lateral areas (sides).
2nd degrees have 25 to 50% mottling.
3rd degrees have 50 -70%.
Extremes would have 70% or more.

Or we could eliminate one degree and group the 1st and 2nds together just to make it easier.

Harlequin:
"What distinguishes this morph from a typical 'fire' morph are the patterned/mottled limbs and the degree of pattern along the sides. Many specimens sold as 'fire' crested geckos are actually 'harlequins' " ( pg. 81 Rhacodactylus)
Extreme:
ex·treme
1. Most remote in any direction; outermost or farthest: the extreme edge of the field.
2.Being in or attaining the greatest or highest degree; very intense: extreme pleasure; extreme pain.
3. Extending far beyond the norm: an extreme conservative. See Synonyms at excessive.
4. Of the greatest severity; drastic: took extreme measures to conserve fuel.
To someone who hasn't seen some harlequins available today, certain animals may be considered 'extreme'. For me, they have to be high contrast, and have an almost unbelievable amount of patterning. Where the 'harlequin' pattern almost looks like it has replaced the base color of the animal. There are many very good examples of what I would consider extreme harlequins on the internet, but too many people try to hype their animals into something they are not.
Basically, to make an extreme harlequin, it has to be above and beyond your average every day harlequin. Ideally, the term should be used less and less in the next year or two, as your 'common' harlequins will all be 'extreme' by (some people's) today standards, but most likely it will be more in-appropriately used, who knows?

LAC:
"Where the 'harlequin' pattern almost looks like it has replaced the base color of the animal"

AGREED, that's exactlly what I feel should define an extreme, it's not extreme unless it looks a hell opf a lot bettre than most other harleys.

Well, I asked about this in the thread that I started in photos, but nobody responded . . . I guess I posted too many pics . . . sorry but I guess I was feeling pretty psyched that I had a nice photo shoot with my new gecko. LOL Anyway, do you think she'd qualify as a harlequin? She's just a baby and she's about 3/4 to 1/2 fired up in these pics, she gets pretty dark when she's really fired and then the lighter spots show up a lot more. I'm a bit perplexed about the whole harlequin/not a harlequin thing, but would like to feel confident when talking about my gecko's pattern!

This is a flame (cosmo), classic as they come. Notice how there is no patterning on the limbs or sides that matches the color on the back (dorsal) area.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a147/BadAssHerps/Flames/Red%20Flames/Cosmoeggdish.jpg

This is Vegas, notice how he has his flame (back/dorsal) coloration covering portions of his legs and sides. This is what makes him a harley.

Holy good God that's one fat awesome looking Extreme harley!
-EliWhy, thank you! She is not only a fat little bugger, but sweet as can be as well. Think she's a good base to work from? xD ;9

Anyways, attempting to contribute to this debate/thread/thing...I think the term extreme harley (or, harley even) is really tossed around too loosely as well. And I think the previous outlining of said traits in this thread are quite spot on, so, yes. ^^
