What would you say is the most common contributing factor for tail loss?

based on my experience it would have to be the cat jumping on my dresser, knocking over the cage, then batting the gecko around with its paws. But thats just me, not sure about anyone else.

Apparently when all this happened (i was out of town) my mom started freaking out and screaming. But now the cat prefers to just sleep in my room, not play with the animals.

Just for that same reason I keep the cricket and roach cages on the floor level shelves to keep the cats entertained and away from my geckos

factors such as extreme stess, imporper handling and uhh yea.. the cat thing would go udner handling i guess haha just dont grab it by the tail. oh yea and females might lose their tails from breeding as well.. which i was informed is quiet rare.. however chances are there.. for healthy reasons to the gecko, most cilitus in the wild do not haev tails so it would not be a cause of concern

Startling them, and stress from heat can do it. We had a heat wave here in WA a couple summers ago, and there were quite a few tails lost from several breeders here. Being housed together with other geckos can do it too, either from outright eating it, biting it til it is dropped, or when the tail itself becomes necrotic..
