Is it normal for a crested gecko to go for a short period of not eating before it sheds?

Yes, and sometimes after.

My cresteds never eat right before a shed. It's perfectly normal. I think it's because their old skin that is about to be shed off has become too tight and uncomfortable. Meaning they don't enjoy eating when they are that uncomfortable, just like females that are close to laying eggs stop eating.
