Hi guys, I just got my Crested Gecko about 2 weeks ago and i took him out and he started pooping. I put him back and his poop was pretty runny. This was the first poop I have seen so do you think it was because he was scared or what? I am going to wait until he poops again to really get worried since he has already grown and has been eating a ton. Any advice on what I might do?

If you are worried about it than you should take a poop sample to the vet so they can do a fecal. They check for Parasits. However, one of my Cresteds has rather runny poop normally. The fecal samples have always come back normal, and the animal has even been treated with flagyl. But still it's poop is a bit runnier than my others. It can vary between individual animals. And remember half their diet is fruit. (I know if I ate that much fruit I would probably have some issues with my gut too!) Hope this helps.

One more question, you said half their diet is fruit and i was told i could feed all baby food as long as i put some chicken baby food in and put multi viatmins in it too. should i start feeding crickets too? I have tried feeding it silkworms(i was told they were ok) but it never ate them.

I would also feed crickets. Dust them once to twice a week and give them crickets. It is in there nature to hunt them. Remeber to not get them (crickets) to big though.

Ok, so I can just let the crickets roam? He is very active at night so im sure he could get them. He also ate a ton of the baby food in the two minutes in between checking on him lol so i know his appetite is good.

Also, if i feed the Clark's Diet would I have to feed crickets? Also, for the crickets, how much should I feed him the two times a week?

Cresteds diet in the wild is filled with both insects and fruit. Clark's on it's own is not a complete diet. Crickets are a good idea regardless what else you feed them. Hunting keeps your gecko active and therefore more healthy. I'd do like 4 small crickets and if he/she eats them all try 5 the next time, etc until you notice 1 or more leftover. As far as the poop, sometimes cresteds have a runny beginning before the solid part, so maybe you didn't wait around for the solid part. Just a thought. Though Niqui has a good point also, about a mainly fruit diet (which it sounds like you're giving him/her).

I've had my crested for about two weeks...maybe three. He isn't very active. Even at night he doesn't seem to do much. I have hanging plants with suction cups on both sides of the terrarium, and some vines for him to climb. When I take him out he crawls around and is moving fine. He just seems to sleep most of the time while in the cage. I feed him baby food supplementing with CGD everyother time and the other days I feed him crickets dusted every other time. With the crickets he will hunt them but he misses them more often than not! Is hunting a learned skill? I know he can see because he judges his jumping distances just fine. I just hope I'm not doing something wrong. I think he is about four months old. Could you tell me what a good feeding schedule is for a crested this age. Maybe I'm feeding him too much? Also he always has a dish of fresh water for drinking. Any help would be appreciated.

Alex- I don't really feed babyfood anymore unless it's a treat (and even then I mostly give them "Super Mixture" as a treat). Babyfood doesn't hold a hold bunch of nutrition, even when supplemented. You can try a powdered diet instead. It's actually cheaper in the long run and MUCH more nutritious.

The poo will be a little softer when they're on a diet heavy with liquid foods, however "diarrhea-like" poo isn't the norm. If you're concerned, definitely take a sample to the vet. Crested poop should have 3 parts:

1.) "Crystal" Urates- white blob
2.) Liquid Urates- clear liquid
3.) Solid "Poo"- the actual "Poo"

If yours looks all blended together and mushy to the max... definitely get it checked out. (And try adding crickets to the diet to "firm" things up.) :)

Malakai- My cresteds are fed every day, an alternating diet of crickets and Clark's Diet. (Sometimes I also give them a "Super Mixture" treat.)

Younger cresteds are still perfecting their aim when hunting crickets. It's normal for them to miss alot, but it should improve over time. (Though the adults aren't perfect shots all the time either! Lol.) :D
