View Full Version : Rats!!!

I picked up a trio of Black Rats het White Albino ..a few weeks ago. Two of them were very healthy and doing well ...one little chica had always had shed issues and felt limpy noodle'y all the time..

Well.. turns out, Sophie wasn't very healthy and she decided to leave us ..and Sophie was NOT the weak one! Rest easy, Soph!

Flinch is the baby that felt limp and weak ..had bad sheds.. all that!

Now, she is coming along like a little monster! She has perfect sheds ..with a little help from her mossy hide... and she eats TWO pinks at a time! She no longer feels goo'ey ...and she takes great pleasure in fending me off with her TEETH!!

And then there was..... PUCK!

That's some cork bark on her face ..she wouldn't come out of her cork bark tube without a struggle... a struggle that I think I won..

From this...

..to a Q-tip drenched in alcohol ....and some noodling..

...and VOILA! ..she's rinsed clean of cork bark remnants...

And no, I'm not that big of a WUSS about bitey things anymore ...but I do have nasty reactions to their little icky mouths, so I am forced to wear gloves ever'now and again.

Thanks for lookin'! :D

Gah, I love rat snakes. Sorry for your loss! Rat snakes are such piggies too. I'm sure that little one would eat one more than two if offered...they are bottomless pits! We have one at work that is just a garbage disposal! She's so pretty too, but always on the hunt.

Aw I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad the rest of them are doing good. Love your little blue eyed Lucy. Not to big a fan of rats but I'll admire them.

Sorry to hear one of them passed............sad but I guess it is the way it goes with reptiles.
Rat Snakes are great...........and fun animals to keep.
I keep some Corns and one Jungle.

Thanks, you guys.. I do miss little Sophie, but as mentioned ..it happens. Hopefully, the other two will grow up to be big and strong ..and make me some little White Albinos and hets.

...and Puck! will just be a spoiled rotten little Leucy :D

Btw, I am finding that the bite reaction I'm having is not uncommon and that there's something in their "venom" that can be a little more intense for some folks. Good thing I have a stock of Benadryl and anti-histamines here ;)
