I use a filter system called PUR. I got it at Costco.
Just wondering what kind of water other rhac owners use:

TAP WATER

BOTTELED WATER

FILTERED WATER

If anyone uses tap water, be sure to call your local water company to see if they add chloramine to the water as well. When get your water dechlorinator... be sure it says "Chlorine and Chloramine".

We have a well so I just use tap. (No chlorine or chemicals are added to the well.)

I also use a PUR filter. My dog, cats, and ball python all get filtered water too! :)

what does letting it sit do to help take out the chlorine and stuff? it sounds easier

letting it sit takes away the harmful chemicals like chlorine (i think ammonia also) however i've been told that it doesnt take away chloramines and i've been told it does take away chloramines.

I use filtered water. I spray with filter water and love it as it doesn't stain the glass either. (no water marks)
I have what is called an Ro system.

I just use tap water, heck I cook with it, drink it and I am fine and my animals are all fine but it does sit in a jug for a day or so before I actually use it. But for some of my amphibian buddies they get special water.

I use tap water. I don't dechlorinate and here's why. When the water is misted into the tank the surface to air ratio is so high that I'm comfortable in the assumption that the chlorine is evaporating off. I've also never seen any proof that there is a downside to chlorinated water if it doesn't evaporate. My 2 cents......

We use both regular tap water with repti-safe and filtered water; most of the time the water does sit out for 12-24 hours prior to use also.

WILL EXPOSURE TO CHLORINE RESULT IN HARMFUL HEALTH EFFECTS?

Short-term, high-level exposures:

•Immediately or shortly after exposure to 30 ppm or more of chlorine gas, a person may have chest pain, vomiting, coughing, difficulty breathing, or excess fluid in their lungs. Exposure to 430 ppm in air for 30 minutes will cause death.
•The health effects of breathing air that has less than 30 ppm of chlorine are the same as listed below for inhaling liquid bleach vapors.
•Liquid chlorine bleach and its vapors (at levels of 3-6 ppm in air) are irritating to eyes. At levels of 15 ppm in air people experience nose and throat irritation. Touching liquid chlorine bleach can cause skin irritation. Drinking levels over 4 ppm can cause throat and stomach irritation, nausea and vomiting.

Now put this in terms of a little tiny gecko! I would never risk it, use a (pur water filter) Purified or RO, the only way to go imo. I have filters on all my sinks and I even have a filter on my shower!

I use a Pur filter now. I used normal tap water before with no ill effects.

For future reference, the reptisafe has unusually high levels of calcium in it... I would not recommend using it.
Instead just let your tap water sit overnight if you are really concerned about it.

Laura, I doubt there are levels that high in our water, then again it varies from place to place...

I have lived in many different states in 45 yrs, some are so bad that when you turn on the faucet it's like you walked into a gyms pool room the smell is so strong. It is in fact sometimes like that here, 20 mins away from our nations DIRTY capitol.

I don't believe any amount of chlorine or floride is ok. Yes, that information is the results of higher levels but it is still a poison and I try to avoid poison where I know it exists. There are enough that we don't or can't control. It's like putting a tiny bit of arsenic in your coffee each morning it may not kill you right away but.....

From a chemical standpoint I'm not sure if comparing arsenic to chlorine and fluoride is a good analogy... But ah well.

Since they all are a poison and have been shown to cause health issues my opinion is that they are comparable, you are certainly entitled to your opinion as well. However, saying "But ah well" makes it sound like you think I'm an idiot and is dismissive in nature, your welcome to that opinion as well, but since I have looked into and researched many food and water issues as they relate to health for more years than you have been on the planet. I will just take the high ground here. Have a nice day.

Laura, I was in no way trying to make you sound like an idiot, and I'm sorry you feel that I have somehow tried to say that, but that was not my intention...

Sorry, if I took it wrong. I am having a massively shitty day and am touchy I'm sure. No hard feelings here.
